GMG is driven by the idea that good ideas stand on their own merit. Match incredible people and their inspired ideas with great
journalists and the public benefits. Facilitating the connection is at
the core of the mission of GMG.
I grew up in the Midwest in a bucolic, pre-internet, tree climbing, pong-playing, rotary phone world. Having grown up in a family with several accomplished journalists, an inherent appreciation - or even reverence - for great reporting and writing is in my blood. My love of journalism grew with my very first paid job in the industry: summer copy messenger at the Los Angeles Times.
My summer job in LA grew into a five-year tenure at The Times, from 1990 to 1995, in which I had the fortune of both working with and learning from some of the most talented editors and journalists in the world and the opportunity to write for every section of the paper except for Sports - an area in which I admittedly had no interest or proclivity, having been previously suspended from my High School newspaper staff for writing a deadline news story on the assumption that the high score in golf wins. Whoops.
During my tenure at The Times, I witnessed and/or participated in the production and or coverage of some of the most defining moments of the last century: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, the Rodney King Trial and the Los Angeles Riots. I earned my B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis on international affairs from the University of Southern California, graduating in 1995. Still interested in journalism but infinitely intrigued by the then-nascent Internet, I left The Times in 1995 to become the Founding Editor and Content Director of Live! Daily, an Internet entertainment publication owned by Ticketmaster Online, and contributing writer to the print magazine companion, Live!. During the Wild West days of the early Internet, my duties grew to include work on multiple business development initiatives prior to the company's acquisition by CitySearch. Shortly after the acquisition, I left, and like many others in the dot.com space - I started - and folded - a well intentioned but disastrously timed entrepreneurial start up focused on content syndication, followed by a brief tenure as Vice President of Business development for a Portland-Oregon based content syndication company.
In 2002, after many years of working in journalism and marketing, and repeated requests for media advice and strategy, GMG was born to create a resource for individuals and organizations in need of solid, informed media strategy and media relations free of spin and clutter. Since its start, GMG has launched countless new companies; significantly increased the public visibility of numerous experts, taken companies public, handled crisis management, national book tours, launches and public events.
I can't think of any job I'd want to be doing more - at GMG we are strongly committed to representing clients with something of real and lasting value to contribute, and we have the great good fortune of working with clients with incredible thoughts and ideas to share with the world. We remember that every day and believe it shows in the results we generate for our clients.
